Flooring Options for Biohort Sheds and Equipment Lockers

Flooring Options for Biohort Sheds and Equipment Lockers

Choosing the right foundation is essential for getting the best performance, stability and longevity from your Biohort shed or Equipment Locker. Below, Spearhead Outdoors explores the four main flooring options and when each is most suitable.

1. Installing Directly onto Concrete or Paving (Without a Floor)

If you have an existing level concrete slab or paved patio, your Biohort shed can be installed directly onto it with no floor required – simply screw your shed to the ground for stability and security. A level base is vital for proper alignment of doors and to ensure long-term stability.

2. Aluminium Floor Frame & Aluminium Floor Panels (with Insulation)

For a premium internal finish, the aluminium floor frame combined with the aluminium chequer‑plate floor panels is a popular upgrade. The floor frame levels minor unevenness and acts as an anchoring structure, while the matching floor panels create a strong and durable surface.

Importantly, Biohort recommends placing 2–3cm thick XPS insulation boards beneath the panels to reduce moisture, improve insulation, and protect stored items.

3. SmartBase – For Uneven Concrete & Paved Areas

Biohort’s patented SmartBase system is designed specifically for slightly uneven hard surfaces such as patios, driveways or sloping concrete.

It features:

  • Height‑adjustable galvanised feet to compensate for irregularities
  • High‑quality aluminium floorboards with integrated water barrier
  • No need for floor frame or separate floor panels

4. SmartBase Plus – For Lawns, Soil & Uneven Gardens (No Hardstanding Required)

When installing a shed on grass, soil, or uneven garden spaces, SmartBase Plus is the ideal solution. Instead of adjustable feet, this system uses ground screws that anchor directly into the soil and can compensate for height differences of up to 15cm, depending on the model. Like SmartBase, it includes aluminium floorboards and water barrier—making it a complete flooring system.
